Dear Colleagues and Friends, dear Shockwave Family,

We all suffered under the terrible pandemic this year, but I hope that you and your
families stayed healthy in these difficult times. As the year draws to a close, we are
cautiously optimistic, now that the first vaccination has obtained approval and is
ready for use. We have therefore decided to relaunch the ISMST World Congress for
2021 in Vienna. The Managing Board and the Organizing Committee agreed that the
Congress will take place, whatever the circumstances. Depending on the actual
situation it will be live, virtual, or a mix of the two. We will go ahead with the
preparations under the assumption that we are able to meet in person and celebrate
our meeting with a personal exchange of experiences, as we have done over the last
two decades.

Abstracts
The programme will be divided into the same sessions we had planned for 2020. The
call for abstracts has already been reopened. We therefore kindly ask that you use
the time during the holidays to collect the most recent data and submit your
abstracts. As no major meetings were possible this year, we are very eager to
exchange the latest findings concerning the fascinating world of shockwave
medicine.
The deadline for submitting the abstracts is 28 February 2021.

Awards
During the last virtual Managing Board Meeting we decided to change our policy
concerning the ISMST Awards. Instead of honouring articles already published, we
want to encourage young researchers to submit abstracts and posters. Our aim is to
honour the presentation of the two best abstracts dealing with clinical trials and the
two best relating to basic research subjects. We also plan to award two prizes for the
best poster presentations.
Please visit our website (https://www.shockwavetherapy.org) for more detailed
Information.
I sincerely hope that it will be possible to welcome you in person in Vienna next year.
In the meantime, I wish you and your families peaceful holidays and a Happy New
Year.

Take care and stay healthy,
Wolfgang
